Original Tribal Items from the stock of a craft shop that closed
about 10 years ago. . . being sold for the owner . These were all
bought in the 1980's during a long trip to the Akha people and
stored when the shop closed from a huge ethnic collection which is now
being sold as a pension fund. In the last 10-15 years an increasing
number of ethnic minority mountain villages, Including Akha, have tried
to open up for tourists, hoping to gain some income from Tourism,
including handicraft sales but with embroidery upon machine made
fabrics Many peices were of considerable age when bought so exact age
cannot be verified as with many ethnic pieces . The Akha are a hill
tribe of subsistence farmers known for their artistry. Most of the
remaining Akha people are now distributed in small villages among the
mountains of China, Laos , Burma, and
northern Thailand, where they are one of the six main hill tribes and
these came from .
Postage is a guestimate if very wrong will refund but due to packing
posts as a parcel/packet. All pieces are being listed at 1980's cost
price where known and a good guess where forgotten or import paperwork
is missing so bargains to be had . Much is museum or collector level
but would be just as happy at a local festival being hand made to use.
. . .COLD WASH BY HAND ONLY.
